GIVING BACK

May There Always Be a Kawanhee

We are constantly reminded that Kawanhee has endured because of the timelessness of its mission and because of the loyalty and devotion of the broad Kawanhee community. Gifts to the Frank Foundation* help support the Kawanhee experience for today’s generation of campers. Your gift will:

  • Help Kawanhee keep tuition affordable and provide scholarships to campers whose families would otherwise not be able to afford it;
  • Ensure that Kawanhee can continue to hire dedicated counselors and other staff members;
  • Support the maintenance of Camp’s iconic buildings; and
  • Provide Kawanhee with the flexibility to respond to opportunities to enrich the Camp experience—such as adding exciting outings to the Tripping calendar or developing new activities to be part of our daily programming, like Mountain Biking in 2023.

If you are interested in donating securities or making a planned gift please be in touch with Kenley Perry for instructions (kenley@kawanhee.com).

*The George and Raymond Frank Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation created in 1998 to ensure that there always will be a Kawanhee. The Foundation now owns and operates Camp Kawanhee as a 501(c)(3) corporation.

**Many employers offer matching gift programs for the donations their employees make to non profit organizations. We are happy to work with donors and employers to facilitate these matching gifts.

Appreciated Securities

Gifts of appreciated securities are tax-deductible at full fair-market value if you have owned the asset for at least 12 months. By donating appreciated securities, you can reduce or eliminate your capital gains tax (note: you must donate the actual securities, not the proceeds of their sale, in order to reduce capital gain taxes). For details on how to make this type of gift, please contact Kenley Perry (phone: 847-980-5965, email: kenley@kawanhee.com).

Estate Planning

If you are considering including Kawanhee in your estate plans, recognizing Kawanhee as a beneficiary in a life insurance policy, or making a gift to Kawanhee through a retirement plan, please contact Kenley Perry (phone: 847-980-5965, email: kenley@kawanhee.com).

Memorabilia

Donate memorabilia to Kawanhee’s History Museum. Established in 2010 with generous support from Steve and Diana Yale, the History Museum holds the collections and archives of Camp Kawanhee for Boys. The collections consist of camp publications such as catalogs and the Wigwam, documents, photographs and objects that have been donated by campers, staff members and alumni alike. The Yales, in addition to Michael Altmaier and Tom Pears, have been instrumental in the design, curation, and upkeep of the museum. Some of the collection is being digitized on a growing virtual Kawanhee History Museum. If you have items to donate, please contact Kenley Perry at kenley@kawanhee.com.

May There Always Be a Kawanhee

There are so many ways to give back to Kawanhee to help ensure that the experience will always be there for the next generation of campers:

Refer a Camper

A successful season at Kawanhee depends on having a full complement of campers. Click here to refer a camper.

Host a Recruitment Event in Your Community

Helping to spread the word about Kawanhee and talking with potential campers and their families will help keep the Kawanhee community growing! Our active recruitment season runs from September to April. Please contact Kenley Perry if you would like to host an event.

Memorial Day Work Weekend

Looking for an excuse to spend time at Kawanhee? Come help us get ready for the upcoming season and reconnect with fellow members of the Kawanhee family. Work gets underway on the Saturday morning of Memorial Day Weekend. Projects range from hanging signs and cleaning up after the long winter, to gardening and painting, and whatever else we can get done in between! There is also plenty of time for fun and catching up, too. Kenley Perry will host a cook-out at Shelter Hill Saturday evening, a few boats will be available to take an early paddle on Webb Lake, and we will hike Tumbledown on Sunday for those who are interested.
