Supportive and Sure-Footed

Dear Kawanhee Family,

It is a great privilege to begin my role as Camp Mom this Summer. After meeting Kawanhee Alumni Kevin Bonasera in 2004, I quickly learned about this amazing place in Maine, called Camp Kawanhee.

My first visit to camp was during the 90th reunion with Kevin and his family. The immediate sense of familiarity, reminiscent of the nature in my native Sweden, and the welcoming people made me feel right at home. Kevin and I returned to Kawanhee last summer as staff members, bringing along our sons, Magnus (11) and Henrik (9), who were attending Camp for the first time.

Last summer, I observed Camp Mom Debi interacting with the campers. I had the opportunity to observe and learn directly from the many ways she supported the boys, including my own. Acquiring knowledge from Debi has enriched my existing experience as a parent and background in Early Childhood Education.

My professional background is in Early Childhood Education. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Florida in 2004. I have experience working at preschools in Sweden and Sarasota, Florida, focusing on supporting children’s development and maintaining effective communication with parents and families. I am excited to apply my past experiences to support campers and families at Camp Kawanhee.

Looking forward to an amazing Summer,

Therese
